HetrixTools alternative for simple uptime monitoring

A fair ReturnPod vs HetrixTools comparison focused on uptime, status pages, and who each tool fits.

Disclosure: This page is published by ReturnPod, a competing product. HetrixTools is a trademark of its owner. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or partnered with HetrixTools. Uptime plan details below are based on HetrixTools’ public uptime monitor pricing and ReturnPod’s pricing around July 2026. Plans and limits change; always confirm on each vendor’s site before purchasing.

Short answer

HetrixTools is a broader hosting-oriented monitoring suite (uptime from multiple locations, server metrics, status pages, and a well-known IP/domain blacklist monitoring product). ReturnPod is a smaller uptime product aimed at HTTP/keyword/TCP checks, alerts, and a simple status page.

If you need blacklist monitoring, multi-location probes, or server-agent metrics, HetrixTools is the stronger fit. If you only need a few URL checks plus a basic status page, ReturnPod may be enough.

What HetrixTools is good at

From their public uptime pricing table:

  • Free-for-life uptime tier with 15 monitors, 1-minute checks, and 4 monitoring locations
  • Paid tiers (Professional from $9.95/month on that page) with more monitors and more locations
  • Public status pages (listed as unlimited across those tiers)
  • Server monitors alongside uptime monitors
  • Many notification channels on paid plans (email, chat tools, webhooks, phone/SMS credits, and more)

Separately, HetrixTools is widely used for IP/domain blacklist monitoring. ReturnPod does not offer blacklist checks. If email deliverability reputation is part of the job, that alone is a reason to use HetrixTools (or keep it alongside something else).

Their free uptime package also has an activity requirement (periodic dashboard login) unless you pay to remove it. Details live in their docs and can change.

What ReturnPod is

ReturnPod stays narrow on purpose:

ReturnPod Free: $0, 5 monitors, 1-minute checks, HTTP/keyword/TCP, 1 public status page, email and webhook alerts. No blacklist monitoring, no multi-location probes, no server agent metrics.

ReturnPod Pro: $9/mo billed annually or $12/mo, 50 monitors, heartbeats, Slack/Discord, extra status slugs, custom domain. Still no blacklist or multi-location probes.

Side-by-side (high level)

  • Free uptime monitors: HetrixTools 15 on free tier; ReturnPod 5 on free
  • 1-minute checks: both
  • Multi-location checks: HetrixTools yes (4+ locations by plan); ReturnPod no
  • Public status pages: both
  • Blacklist monitoring: HetrixTools yes (core strength elsewhere in the product); ReturnPod no
  • Server resource agent: HetrixTools yes; ReturnPod no
  • Cron / heartbeat monitors: ReturnPod has heartbeats on Pro; if you need that from HetrixTools, check their current docs rather than this page
  • Paid entry price (public pages around July 2026): HetrixTools Professional from $9.95/mo on their uptime pricing page; ReturnPod Pro $9/mo annual or $12/mo

When to choose HetrixTools

  • You need IP/domain blacklist monitoring
  • You want checks from multiple geographic locations
  • You want server CPU/RAM-style metrics via their agent
  • You already rely on their reports or white-label status setup

When ReturnPod can be enough

  • You only care about a few HTTPS endpoints (and maybe keyword/TCP)
  • You want a simple public status page tied to those monitors
  • You want heartbeats for cron/workers on a flat Pro plan
  • You do not need blacklist or multi-location probes

How to decide cleanly

  1. List must-haves: blacklist? multi-location? status page? heartbeats?
  2. Compare those rows on HetrixTools uptime pricing and ReturnPod pricing
  3. Run both on one URL for a week if you want real alert feel
  4. Keep the product that covers the must-haves without paying for unused modules

We are not claiming ReturnPod replaces HetrixTools. For hosting and reputation monitoring, they cover ground we do not.
